SAN FRANCISCO EDUCATORS SHARE FOOD AND
CELEBRATIONS WITH TEACHERS IN WEST VIRGINIA
[SAN FRANCISCO] – United Educators of San Francisco, the Union representing teachers, para-educators, social workers, psychologists and other support professionals, initiated a “Pizza for West Virginia Teachers” campaign through GoFundMe. The funds were an effort to provide concrete support for teachers while they fought for a fair wage increase.
“We are excited that an agreement may be reached today for West Virginia teachers and other school staff,” said Lita Blanc, President of United Educators of San Francisco. “In less than three days, we raised over $20,000 to provide lunches for our brothers and sisters in West Virginia who were standing strong. We just wanted to express our love and solidarity with our fellow educators.”
As a result of the donation, UESF received hundreds of emails, Facebook and twitter posts thanking UESF members, and the larger labor community for the support during the strike. Lunch was also provided today, and UESF has pledged to equally distribute the remainder of the funds to the three unions that represent educators in West Virginia.
