A shoutout to Matt Alexander for his inspiring victory against strong opposition. The voters acknowledged his dedication to public education, thanks to the support of educators, families, and allies who rallied behind him.

With deep sadness, we share the news of the passin

With deep sadness, we share the news of the passing of Dennis Kelly, high school English teacher and former president of UESF. Dennis was a dedicated leader at local, state, and national union levels for over five decades. He joined the San Francisco Federation of Teachers Executive Board in 1971, played a pivotal role in the 1989 merger with SFEA to form UESF, and served as UESF President from 2003-2015. He also served on the AFT Executive Council from 2008 to 2016.

Dennis championed many causes, including advocating for housing for San Francisco educators. Known for his warmth, wit, and strong leadership, he will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to the labor movement, fierce commitment to justice for educators and students, and his lasting impact on California's labor movement and beyond.

Our condolences are with his wife, Hene, his children, Edith and Nathanael, and all of his loved ones. We will share more information about services and celebrations of his time with us when they are available.
